“I run trainings for wellness coaches who come to Chicago from all over the country for three-day trainings. In the middle of the training, I bring Improv for Change in to run an improv night for our group (we average 15 participants). I have been bringing Jess in for five years, and so I have seen her work with close to 40 different groups. Obviously, every group is different and yet I have watched Jess work her magic with every single group. Her magic is her ability to make everyone feel relaxed and safe enough to try things they never thought they would. In our follow up surveys, our participants often rank their time with Jess as one of the best parts of their training experience.
After the fun experience of playing a variety of improv games with Improv for Change, people think we are done, but in reality, the best part is yet to come. Because after everyone has experienced learning some basic improv skills, Jess then goes on to teach how the skills of improv have such immediate and powerful application to leading and facilitating others to grow and change. To be a good leader today requires a lot of the skills of improv—being wholly focussed on the present moment, being able to say “Yes, and…” to ideas from others, always remembering to make your partner look good, to trust the process rather than trying to control the process, and to be able to adapt to rapidly changing conditions.
Don’t just hire Improv for Change because you and group will have a really fun time. Hire them because in addition to that you will also learn some valuable skills and principles for leading others and for leading yourself!”
